More Christmas creep

Spotted at Stop & Shop just now: The Salvation Army bell ringer and kettle!

I’m pretty sure they’re usually out before Thanksgiving, however.

I debated taking his photo, decided he’d rather not be pictured under the headline of “Christmas creep.” He was friendly, if a bit gruff, and rang his bell only after I slipped a buck in the kettle.

  1. ‘decided he’d rather not be pictured under the headline of “Christmas creep.”’ Now that was funny…

  2. We just left Key West & Homosassa Springs, FL – as we progress northward, the south is in full Christmas regalia. Banks are decorated, the street banners are up and it sure is strange to see when you are still wearing shorts and t-shirts!

I am so not ready for Christmas. . . .

  3. I have to say, I love Nordstrom’s approach to the holidays. Last year just before Thanksgiving, while the rest of the mall looked like a tacky Christmas explosion, there was a simple, elegant sign at the front of the store that read something like “At Nordstrom, we believe in celebrating one holiday at a time.” Christmas decorations don’t go up until the day after Thanksgiving… now that’s classy!

  4. I can’t say I blame the Salvation Army for being out already. They’re a charity. If retail stores are already setting up for Christmas, and this affords them the chance to round up some extra funds, you can’t fault them.

It’s completely different than someone putting lights up a month or two early. I can also see the argument for putting lights up in the warmer weather, but no excuse for lighting them this early. I like decorating and seeing what others have done just as much as the next person, but I’m also a HUGE fan of Thanksgiving and hate seeing it glanced over.
