Creative teaching

My sixth grader’s favorite lesson this week: while learning about the Middle East, Mr. Mitchell asked them to write a song about one of the countries.

The kid reports that “Jingle Bells” and “Row-Row-Row-Your-Boat” were popular templates. What did he do? He wrote and performed a ditty about Afghanistan, adapted from Bon Jovi’s “Livin’ On a Prayer.”

My favorite line: “Take my hand, and we’ll run into Iraq/Oh-no, don’t go to Afghanistan.”

He’s SO my kid.
