Bryan Gatley used to teach fourth grade. Now he’s spending his retirement doing something he’s always dreamed about: writing books.
Gatley was signing copies of his latest book, “The Christmas Hamster,” at the Grafton Country Store Sunday as part of Grafton Celebrates the Holidays.
“The Christmas Hamster,” illustrated by Renee Kurilla, is a picture book “for any age,” said Gatley, whose previous book, “The Dog Gone Mystery,” was aimed at children 8-12. Both books are published through his imprint, Gatbooks, and are available in local stores such as the Country Store and online at his website, Gatbooks.com.
“I always had animals and I had pets growing up,” Gatley said. “My kids had hamsters and the idea kind of evolved. It’s just one of those creative flow of some thoughts about the hamster and it all kind of came together.”
