Grafton & Upton Railroad news is on fire this week

004Some quick hits about the Grafton & Upton Railroad this week:

  • On Wednesday, sparks from a train on the tracks set off brush fires along the rail line behind Bushel & Peck and Cumberland Farms. The train was halted as Grafton firefighters worked to quell the flames. Another instance where my desire for a paycheck interfered with Grafton coverage, sorry!
  • Also on Wednesday, the railroad received $221,700 from the MassDOT Industrial Rail Access Program for a $552,000 expansion at the Hopedale yard, where it will construction a switching lead and several sidings.
  • The railroad next week will begin to install railroad crossings across several roads in Milford, which will allow the railroad to finally connect with the CSX rail at its end.
