The fourth-seeded Indians take on Oxford High in the first round of the playoff season Thursday at 3 p.m. Grafton will be playing on its home turf which, I believe remains at Nelson Field rather than Grafton High since the softball field was installed after the school year began (correct me if I’m wrong in the comments).
I’m not a huge sports fan but I loved covering the team last spring (that’s one of my favorite photos, ever, above), watching the opposing teams quake as they got their first look at Kendal Roy’s pitching. Two players, Ali Page and Tara Faford, signed college letters of intent earlier this year. The entire team is ridiculously good, which makes you wonder — why is it the town never bothered to put up a sign next to all the other signs touting state championships at the town borders?
Also on deck this week — Grafton High’s lacrosse team, the second seed, takes on Marlborough Wednesday at Grafton High, 4 p.m. About lacrosse, I know nothing other than to yell “go Tyler!” to my former GHS intern, Tyler Reilly.
Spring playoff season, as an editor without sports reporters, was the bane of my existence. At least we didn’t have to shiver in the snow.
