The Fisherville & Farnumsville Streetscape Committee is pleased to announce that the dedication ceremony for the Mill Villages Park Memorial Plaza will be held on Friday, June 14 at 6 p.m. The ceremony, which will be followed by a Flag Day concert, is open to the public and will take place rain or shine.
The Memorial Plaza has been developed over the past year. Commemorative bricks and commemorative plaques for the three flag poles purchased by private donors have been installed and will be dedicated at the event. There a second opportunity to purchase commemorative bricks in Fall 2013. A formal announcement will be made in September.
The Park originally consisted of a gravel area that was once used for parking by the Fisherville Mill prior to its destruction by fire in 1999. The Park has been under construction since the groundbreaking ceremony on April 9, 2011.
Located between the Blackstone River and the Blackstone Canal, the two acre park consists of open space for events such as farmer’s markets, exhibits, and live performances; a pavilion, river access; memorial benches, walkways and parking. The historic “little bank” building, originally located on Main Street in South Grafton and currently owned by the Grafton Historical Society, has been moved onto the site.
The Mill Villages Park is located at 61 Main Street in South Grafton. There will be a performance by Blackstone Valley Community Concert Band at 7 p.m. In the event of rain, the concert will be performed in the Grafton High School auditorium at 26 Providence Road. Guests are encouraged to car pool to the event.
Funding sources for the park as well as the memorial plaza are from federal, state and local funds including a State Smart Growth (40R) incentive grant, Community Preservation Act funds, and private donations.
