Author Dan Szczesny has been to many mountaintops and back but found the most inspirational journeys to be close to his New Hampshire backyard. He tackled the state’s 225-mile “52 With a View” in the company of his then 9-year-old neighbor, Janelle, starting in 2011 and chronicled their experiences in “The Adventures of Buffalo and Tough Cookie.”
The pair will make the trek to the Grafton Public Library on Wednesday, Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. to share their experiences. Book sales, signing, and Q& A will follow the photo slideshow and discussion.
Library Director Beth Gallaway didn’t have to do too much coaxing to get the adventuresome duo: young Janelle, now 11, is her niece and the author is her mother’s next door neighbor.
Szczesny is the associate publisher of The Hippo, New Hampshire’s largest weekly newspaper, based in Manchester. His blog, also called “The Adventures of Buffalo and Tough Cookie,” can be found here.
An avid New England hiker and member of the AMC’s 4,000-footer club, Dan was married atop Mt. Lafayette. He also traveled to Nepal and trekked to Everest Base Camp. Check out excerpts from his travelogue of the journey, “The Nepal Chronicles.”
